4. Choosing Your Puppy:

People/Families on our waiting list will get to choose their puppy in the order that we received their deposits. Once a litter has been born, you will be contacted about how many puppies will be available for you to choose from in this litter and we will schedule a tentative date for you to come to the farm and choose a puppy when they are around the age of 6-7 weeks and after their initial vet exam. While you are meeting the puppies, we will share our observations with you about the individual puppy personalities. However, we encourage you to come, play with the puppies, and make your own observations on how each pup responds to you as well. In our years of breeding, We've observed that some puppies behave differently around different people and that's why I do not make that final choice of which puppy you take home. I feel that both the buyer and the puppy are happiest when they get to make that final choice themselves. We also observe the puppy's reaction to you as well and we discuss what we're both seeing.

If you are not able to come to the farm to choose your puppy because of distance or schedule, you may choose your puppy virtually. We send photos and personality descriptions of available pups and schedule a zoom call with you so you can see the pups too.

7. Make Arrangements to Get Your Puppy Home.

If you are unable to come to the farm to pick-up your puppy and take it home, we have multiple options for you to consider for puppy transport. Below is a link to more transport details. Here are some basic considerations:

  • You will make the transport arrangements and pay the transport person directly for their service.
  • Ground transport is not available to the west coat- transit time is too long for a small pup.
  • Final payment for your puppy is REQUIRED before your puppy leaves our home with the transport person.

If you have any issues with completing your payment, we can help you thru the steps when you are here to pick-up your puppy. However, we encourage that your payment be completed the day before pick-up for the following reasons:

  • Your credit card might decline a puppy payment due to security filters flagging a high-dollar transaction, especially if it is unusual for your spending habits. To ensure it goes through, you may need to contact your bank beforehand to authorize the payment. Typically this is resolved quickly, however, if picking your pup up on a weekend, there can be delays in getting the issue resolved.
  • Good Dog verifies IDs during some puppy payments to prevent fraud and ensure security. While usually fast, delays can occur if manual review is needed.

WHY ARE PAYMENTS made THRU GOODDOG MORE SECURE?

Key Security Features for Buyers:

  • Payment Protection & Guarantee: If you choose the optional "Protection & Support" fee, you are backed by the Good Dog Guarantee. This covers specific issues such as:
    • Breeder Unresponsiveness: If a breeder takes a deposit but stops responding for 14+ days.
    • Misrepresentation: If the puppy delivered is not the breed advertised.
    • Health & Care Issues: If the breeder fails to provide core vaccinations or a pre-placement vet exam.
    • Contract Non-compliance: If the breeder does not honor their own written refund or deposit policies.
  • Vetted Community: Good Dog screens breeders before they can join the platform, reducing the risk of encountering the "non-existent puppy" scams common on social media.
  • Secure Infrastructure: The platform uses "best-in-class" fraud detection technology to flag and review unusual payments.
  • Record Keeping: All payments generate a secure digital trail, including an automatic receipt and a record of the breeder’s deposit policy.

Perks for puppy buyers:

When you pay through Gooddog's Payment platform and opt into the 'Protection & Support' bundle, in addition to financial safety, you get "new owner" resources that aren't available with cash or Zelle:

 Expert Support for Life

  • Puppy Training Classes: You get access to their online "GoodPup" training program (usually a $200+ value) which includes one-on-one video sessions with certified trainers.
  • The Care Team: You can contact their team of specialists, including vets and behaviorists, to ask questions about your puppy’s health or transition into your home.

Shopping Discounts:

Good Dog partners with several brands to give you "welcome home" discounts:

How to make a 'no-fee' payment on gooddog:

To make a no-fee payment on Good Dog, you have to bypass both the platform's protection fee and the credit card processing fee. Here is exactly how to do it during checkout:

1. Choose "Bank Account (ACH)".

When you get to the payment method screen, do not select Credit Card, Debit Card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.

  • Why: Cards automatically trigger a 3% – 3.3% processing fee.
  • Action: Select Bank Account (ACH transfer). This method has $0 processing fees.

2. Opt-Out of "Protection & Support".

Good Dog usually defaults to including their "Protection & Support" bundle (which costs between $5 and $250 depending on the puppy's price).

  • Action: Look for the "Edit" or "Information" button (i) next to the Protection & Support line item in your order summary.
  • Selection: Choose the option to pay without protection. You will likely see a prompt asking you to confirm that you understand you are waiving the Good Dog Guarantee and training perks.

Why Verification is sometimes Required:

Good Dog requires identity verification primarily to create a "trusted environment" for high-stakes transactions involving live animals. Unlike standard retail apps, they verify users to prevent fraud, scams, and animal welfare issues.

Why Verification Is Sometimes Required:

  • Fraud & Scam Prevention: Verification helps detect and block "would-be scammers" who use fake accounts to post non-existent puppies or use stolen financial information.
  • Safety & Compliance: Good Dog may check government IDs against databases to screen for records of criminal convictions or animal abuse registrations where permitted by law.
  • Dispute Protection: By authenticating your identity, the platform ensures that the person making the payment is the same person picking up the puppy, which prevents unauthorized chargebacks and "clawback" scams.

How Your Data is Handled:

  • Strict Privacy: Good Dog states they do not sell your data to third parties for marketing purposes.
  • Secure Infrastructure: They use bank-level encryption (HTTPS/SSL) and are PCI Service Provider Level 1 certified—the highest industry standard for handling sensitive payment data.
  • Third-Party Partners: They often use specialized identity services (like IDenfy or similar providers) to compare your ID photo against biometric facial scans for accuracy.

Sharp Ridge Rottweilers Puppy tips

Before You Decide To Get A Rottweiler Puppy:

Are you thinking about adding a Rottweiler puppy to the family?  While being a 'puppy-parent-in-waiting' is super exciting,  please take a moment to consider the investment as well:

  • Time and Lifestyle: Puppies need constant, immediate, and high-frequency care (potty breaks, training, socialization). If you plan to be gone from home for more than 4 hours, you will need to plan for a friend or dog-walker to check on your puppy while you're gone.
  • Financial Commitment:  Beyond the purchase price, prepare a budget for food, gear, vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, and a $3-5k puppy emergency fund.
  • Puppy Training: Training a Rottweiler puppy is nonnegotiable. A well-behaved Rottweiler does not happen by accident! Find yourself a great local Puppy training coach/ Dog Trainer who can provide in-person training support and also connect you with other local doggie resources!
  • Landlord/HOA Rules: If renting, ensure pets are allowed and check for weight or breed restrictions. Also consider what space you have available for exercising your dog.
  • Breed Research: Consider how this breed matches your activity level and living space (e.g., high-energy dogs in apartments, grooming needs).
  • Reputable Breeders: Only buy from breeders who allow on-site visits, show you the puppy's parents (temperament and health), and provide proof of vaccinations, deworming, puppy Veterinary examinations, and parent's health testing results.
  • Long-Term Commitment: Puppies grow into adults with evolving needs; they are a 10–15 year commitment.

Preparing to Bring Your Puppy Home:

  1. Plan ahead so you can be at home with your puppy as much as possible for the first couple weeks while you both adjust to life together. Your puppy will feel secure when he knows where you are, and feel abandoned when he does not.
  2. Schedule a vet exam for your new pup. We ask that your puppy be seen by your veterinarian within 10-14 days of purchase to ensure that you received a pup who was fit for sale as well as to establish care for your pup.
  3. Check out local or online puppy training support options! In person puppy classes are great because not only do you have inperson trainer support, but also you and your puppy get to collaborate with other new puppy parents and their puppies in your area!
  4. Check out AKC events near you where you can watch competitions or enter for AKC Star Puppy Classes or
  5. Check into Pet Insurance, your puppy trainer or veterinarian might have a recommendation. Gooddog offers a 10% discount toward Figo when you pay for your puppy thru Gooddog.pay.  You also get perks with AKC Pet Insurance when you register your pup with the AKC.
  6. Look at your house thru the eyes of your puppy! Sweep your floors to make sure there’s no staples, medications, etc. on the floor that your pup could swallow. Make sure all electrical cords are out of your pup’s reach.
  7. Set up your pup’s crate or limited space area and make a plan with the others in the house for night and daytime schedules.
  8. Get basic supplies on hand.

  •  Adjustable 12”-14” collar and leash
  • Food and water bowls.
  • Crate and/or exercise pen for confinement when you cannot be with your pup.
  • NutriSource Large Breed Puppy Food

Puppy Pick-up Day!

Finally the big day has arrived! Taking a new puppy home is an exciting adventure for the entire family!  Here's a few tips to make the memories of the special day more pleasant:

  • Pack a couple of old bath towels or paper towels, just in case the puppy gets carsick on the way home.
  • Your puppy will ride most happily if cuddled the first part of the journey. However, it’s a good idea to have a crate along for if you get tired of holding him or if you do not have someone else along to drive.
  • Stop every 2 hours for a potty break. If the pup is sleeping at the 2-hour point, you can keep driving and stop when he does wake up.
  • The pup will not need to eat on the way home unless you need to drive more than 5 hours. Have a bottle of water and a water dish along to give your pup a drink.
  • If you have another dog or cat at home, introducing your new puppy to your older dog requires a slow, supervised approach, starting with meetings on neutral ground. Use barriers like crates or gates to manage interactions, prevent the puppy from pestering the senior, and ensure both dogs have separate, quiet spaces for rest and feeding. Allow 3-7 days for the puppy and your other pets to accept each other!

Getting Settled At Home:

  1.  Focus on getting acquainted with and bonding with your pup. Your presence gives the pup security. Your pup will most likely want to sleep near you the first night.
  2. Begin the housebreaking process immediately. But otherwise do not do too much training until your pup seems to have settled in and is past the stress of transition.
  3. Make sure your pup is eating and drinking to keep your pup from experiencing low blood sugar or dehydration. If your pup doesn’t want to eat, try some low salt, low fat cooked chicken and/or chicken broth soaked with your pup’s kibble. Peanut butter is also an irresistible treat. Another option is some high quality canned puppy food.
  4. Your pup should be fed around kibble 3 times a day. Analyze how much  your pup eats each time and adjust his portion accordingly as individual pups need different amounts of food. An additional bedtime or midnight snack may be a good idea the first week or two to keep its blood sugar stable overnight.
  5.  If your puppy cries a lot in the crate at night, consider alternatives. Turn on some calming music. Sleep on a couch nearby. Maybe your pup would appreciate having his crate inside an exercise pen so he does not feel so closed in. Give him some food, water, toys, and a blanket. He may enjoy having his own space but still hearing you go on with life in the next room.
  6. A tired puppy is a happy puppy, so play with your pup and then put it to bed!
  7. Make sure your pup is getting adequate rest. Pups need to sleep about 2 hours for every hour of playtime!

House Breaking/ Potty Training Tips:

  • Scheduled Potty breaks. Your puppy has a small bladder and will need to go outside often! Puppies often need to have a potty break about every two hours, after naps, and after meals and/or drinking water. A consistent schedule is very important.
  • For nighttime, get your pup tired out and have him go potty before tucking him in for the night. Most pups need to go out once in the middle of the night and again as soon as you wake up in the morning.
  • Always take your puppy out to the same general location to go potty. The location should be clean and quiet. Some bushes or other foliage may give your pup a feeling of privacy. If your pup doesn’t go potty after being outside for a while, just stand still or walk in a small circle while holding your pup’s leash so your pup can hold still long enough to focus on what it needs to do!
  • Crate training is an excellent way to house-train a puppy. Your puppy's crate should be large enough for them to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably. If you don’t use a crate, an exercise pen or doorway gate will be helpful to limit your pup’s access to the house by keeping the pup contained to a certain area of the house without carpet on the floor. Puppies want to keep their living area clean, limiting their space when they are not attended helps them to wait until they can get outside to go potty.
  • Pay close attention to your puppy's behaviour to identify signs they need to go to the bathroom, like whining, sniffing, or circling.
  • If your pup doesn’t pee when you take him outside and you think its time for him too pee, don’t let your pup run around in the house when you go back inside. Either hold your pup or have him in the crate for about 20 min. and then try again to see if your pup will pee outside. Letting them run around the house in this circumstance puts you at high risk for accidents.
  • Clean up accidents properly: Thoroughly clean any accidents inside with an enzymatic cleaner to remove the scent and discourage future accidents in the same spot.
  • Positive reinforcement: Immediately praise and reward your puppy with a treat when they go potty outside.
  • For pups who are difficult to housebreak, try the Umbilical Cord Housebreaking Method. It involves keeping your puppy on a leash attached to you at all times when inside the house. Choose a lightweight leash that's comfortable for your puppy to wear. Attach the leash to your puppy's collar or harness and always keep it on your wrist or belt loop when your puppy is inside the house. The ideal length of the leash for the umbilical cord housebreaking method is around 6 feet. This length is sufficient to allow your puppy some space to roam around but also keeps them within your reach and supervision. With an “umbilical cord”, your puppy is under constant supervision, and you’ll quickly recognize the signs that your puppy needs to go potty. This method works well when combined with other potty-training techniques to create a solid routine for your puppy.
  • If your puppy continues to have trouble with peeing in the house, consult your veterinarian to rule out any underlying medical conditions that could be impacting  your puppy's ability to potty train.

Tips to help with Nipping/Biting

Why do puppies bite? Puppies bite because that is how they discover and interact with the  world around them - it plays an important role in their socialization. They can’t pick things  up with their paws, so they try to do it with their mouths! It’s important to know that puppy  biting is extremely normal and expected.

  • Never encourage nipping by enticing a puppy to chase your hands or toes. If your puppy bites to start play or during play and will not be redirected to a toy, immediately get up and remove yourself from the puppy’s area. Go into another room or to the other side of a gate or barrier so the puppy can’t follow. Remain out of the area for about 30 seconds. When you return, get a toy and resume play. You may need to repeat this process.
  • Your puppy really wants to please you. A simple, firm "ouch" or “no” can let your puppy know their bite is not welcome. Most puppies are very intelligent about what the tone of your voice means.
  • Giving your puppy a "time out” in its crate gives your pup some time to “reset”.  Choose a calm, quiet area like a crate or a designated corner where your puppy can't see you and won't be actively engaged. Keep the timeout brief, usually only a few minutes, as puppies have short attention spans.
  • If your puppy continues to bite inspite of attempts to redirect them, they may be overly tired. Put them in their crate or designated area with a treat to encourage them to nap. Your puppy may cry or paw at the door when you do this. Ignore them until they settle down for at least 5 minutes. (Set a timer.) Often, you’ll find that when that 5 minutes is up, your puppy is resting quietly or has actually fallen asleep! This is because puppies frequently start nipping when they are overtired and not able to self-regulate. In the absence of the opportunity to get excited and bite you, they wind down and start to rest. Keep in mind that puppies sleep for 18-20 hours a day: that’s a lot of rest! If your pup has been awake longer than 60-90 minutes and is getting mouthy, it is almost assuredly time for a nap.
  • Try Puppy Socialization Classes. Attending puppy socialization classes is also a helpful (and crucial!) part of your puppy’s education. Here, puppies learn how to read other dogs’ body language, bite inhibition, and how to communicate with a wide variety of similarly aged pups.

When To Spay Or Neuter:

It is generally recommended to wait until 12 to 24 months to spay or neuter a Rottweiler. Because they are large, slow-maturing dogs, waiting until they are physically mature (around 2 years) allows growth plates to close, which reduces the risk of joint issues and certain cancers. Key Considerations for Timing:

  • Orthopedic Health: Neutering before one year, especially before 6 months, can increase the risk of hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and cruciate ligament ruptures.
  • Lifespan & Health Studies: Research indicates that neutering a Rottweiler before 4.5 years of age can actually shorten their lifespan. Intact Rottweilers often live longer, healthier lives.
  • Females: To reduce the risk of urinary incontinence ("leaking"), many experts suggest waiting until after the first heat cycle, or until the dog is at least 12–24 months old.
  • Males: Waiting until 18 to 24 months is generally recommended for proper bone, joint, and physical development.
  • Individual Factors: While early fixing can manage behaviors like roaming or aggression, the long-term health benefits of waiting often outweigh these, especially for large breeds like Rottweilers.

It is highly recommended to discuss the best time for your specific dog with your veterinarian, as they can assess your dog's physical development and risk factors.

Getting Your Puppy Home Safely!! (Transport Options)

1. PICK-UP YOUR PUPPY IN PERSON:

New puppy owners are encouraged to pick-up their new puppy at our farm unless coming to our farm is logistically not an option for you! Puppy pick-up at Pond View Puppies is by appointment only.

By law, our puppies are prohibited to leave our home until they are 8 weeks old or older.

Below are transport options for getting your puppy home if you are unable to come to Pond View Puppies to get your puppy.  Your puppy delivery is scheduled according to your transport nanny's schedule.  Occasionally travel delays occur, but you will be updated by call/text as soon as a delay is suspected.  The cost of puppy transportation is NOT included in our puppy price and will be payable directly to your transport nanny before confirmation of transport.

Contact A Transport Nanny

2. GROUND TRANSPORT NANNY:

The 'Ground Transport Nanny' services include  pick-up at our home and delivery to your door.  Ground Transport is a good option for you if you live in the eastern part of USA. We do not offer Ground Transport  west of the Mississippi. Ground Transport cost ($400-$1000) will depend on distance, fuel price, tolls, and how many other pups are riding in the same vehicle.

3. FLY YOUR PUPPY HOME IN-CABIN:

Book a flight into one of our nearest airports (Scranton/AVP, Harrisburg/MDT, or Philadelphia/PHL), rent a car to drive to our farm for your puppy, and fly back with the puppy in the cabin under your seat. This usually affordable option allows you to meet us and reduces stress on the puppy. Check with your airline to  review their pet travel policies & requirements before booking your flight.  You will also need a small pet carrier that can fit under the airplane seat to keep your pup safely confined during take-off and landing.

NOTE: This option is time-senstive since a puppy must be under 20 pounds and be small enough to fit in a very small under-seat crate. Typically, our Rottweiler puppies will only be able to fly in-cabin between 8-9 weeks of age.

4. FLIGHT NANNY:

A  professional flight nanny  can be hired to fly with your puppy in the airplane cabin and meet you in your nearest airport or else deliver the puppy to your door.  The price for this service is typically in the ball-park of $1100-1500. Delivery to your door would likely be more. This option is only available when the pup is 8-9 weeks old because of size requirements.

5. AMERICAN PetEmbark; MEET YOUR PUP AT THE AIRPORT:

A  Professional Transport Nanny can be hired to book and  manage transport details for  your puppy's unaccompanied flight into your nearest large airport.  After you have made a date for the flight with one of our nannies and paid them for their service, they will book the flight and tell you when and where to meet your puppy in the airport. On the day of the flight,  your nanny will send photos of your pup when the pup leaves our home and once they have the pup checked in. (remember that until the pup is checked in, there is no guarantee of flight that day as flight logistics can change last minute). Puppy flights are temperature sensitive, therefore this option is not available throughout temperature extremes at any connection.  When you go to the airport, you will go to either the baggage claim or cargo terminal (depending on the airport) to meet your pup about 45-60 minutes after your pup's flight lands.  You will need to show your ID as proof that you are the designated person to receive the puppy.  The cost for this service is around $800 (price of flight can vary as it's based on weight) plus a $150 charge for an airline approved crate and veterinary clearance before the flight.

Contact An Expirienced Transport Nanny:

Here is contact information for our trusted transport nannies. Please respect their busy scheduled by contacting them by text so they can reply to you at their convenience when they are off the road. You will book your transport for your puppy by setting a date with the nanny and then paying them directly for their services. The transport nanny will also be in contact with us about the details. Once the pup is enroute, you can expect occasional updates from your transport nanny. Delays can happen and we make sure that the nanny has enough of our puppy food along for several days. When flight or traffic delays happen, we will let you know ASAP and keep you updated as we all work together to get your puppy safely home!
