Since 2016, we have been working with the Bernese Mountain Dog breed to produce Berners who will be healthy companions and therapy dogs. Each mating takes place after lots of health testing and forethought. Our Bernese Mountain dogs have a happy, free life on our farms in rural Danville area, Pennsylvania.
Our Bernese Mountain Dogs are friendly and sweet. Great temperaments result from both genetic and environmental factors. We believe that lots of socialization in the first months of life has a positive impact on the pup's life-long temperament.
Our parent Bernese Mt Dogs are OFA Hip, Elbow, Heart, & Eye Certified. We also screen them for DM, SOD1B, & VWD1. We do our best to mate our parent dogs so that the puppies also have great health scores. In addition, our Berners are now tested for Histiocytic Sarcoma.
Balanced structure affects everything about the health, posture, and movement of a Bernese Mt Dog. We use the AKC BMD standard as a conformation guide & enjoy the look of BMDs with great structure. Our parent dogs have excellent gait.
We do our best to choose Bernese Mt Dogs from lines with longer life-spans. However, we make no promises about how long our puppies will live due to the general Bernese Mt Dog Population having a shorter life expectancy (4-14 years).
If you are able, we encourage you to visit our Bernese Mountain Dog family before choosing your puppy. You can meet the parents of our puppies to get a good idea of what your puppy will be like as an adult. We can also discuss your preferences and give you the information you need to decide if we are the right breeder for you. You can schedule an appointment to visit after completing our puppy application. We often do visits late morning or early evening on Mondays, Fridays, or Saturdays.
One of our goals in breeding Bernese Mountain dogs is to provide excellent companion dogs with great health and temperament. We are also happy to work with you & your trainer if you are looking for an excellent therapy dog or service dog prospect. Several of Weatherby's offspring have become excellent therapy/service dogs. Weatherby and Clara's son Digger lives in a community near us and is a therapy dog at a local university. Click on the link below to see him in action!
Our parent dogs are health tested and the results are available to the public. If you want to see the health testing for your puppy's parents, please go to our 'Adult BMDs' page and then click on the button to find out more about each Bernese Mountain Dog. You can also look up our Bernese Mountain Dogs on Berner Garde or the OFA Database.
We typically have puppies available a couple times throughout the year. Sometimes we also have older pups available or adult Bernese Mountain Dogs too. Please complete our puppy application if you are interested in getting a Bernese Mountain Dog from us and want to get the process started.
We ask that you take your new puppy to meet your veterinarian within the first 14 days after purchase to establish care for your pup and to make sure that you received a puppy who was 'fit for sale'. We offer a 2 year genetic health guarantee that covers terminal illness or significant disability proven to be of genetic origin through proper veterinary testing.
We feed our puppies the Royal Canin Brand. We start the pups out with Royal Canin's Puppy Starter, a special formula for puppies tiny bellies. Around 7 weeks old, we begin feeding a large breed puppy formula. See our FAQs to find links to the puppy food we use.
At time of sale, we provide you with a portfolio with thorough documentation of your new Bernese Mt Dog's Health and Pedigree History. This folder includes pedigrees, AKC registration, Microchip Reunite Info, Vaccination Records, Vet Exam certificates, and copies of both parent's health testing certificates. We ask that you take this folder of information along to your vet visits in order to seamlessly transfer your puppy's health care to your new vet. Your vet is always welcome to contact us with any questions about the new puppy or dog.
We only accept payments thru gooddog's secure payment platform. Gooddog.pay is built with both breeders and puppy buyers in mind with the goal of eliminating fraudulent puppy payments. We welcome you to come and meet the dogs/puppies before desiding if we are the right breeder for you. Visits are by appointment only, usually on Mondays, Fridays, or Saturdays.
With every puppy we sell, we offer a short term health guarantee and a 2 Year Genetic Health Guarantee. We ask that you take your puppy to your vet within 14 days of purchase for two reasons: 1.) to establish care with your veterinarian and 2.) to verify that you received your puppy in a 'fit for sale' condition. We do not guarantee our puppies against parasites or Giardia since puppies can pick both up very easily. We offer a 2 year genetic health guarantee that covers terminal illness or significant disability proven to be of genetic origin through proper veterinary testing.
We start our puppies off with the Royal Canin puppy Starter. This is a special formula just for tiny puppy stomachs. As the puppies get older, they begin to eat a large breed puppy formula. We feed our puppies age 2-12 months either of these foods:
If is very important to make sure you are feeding a 'Large Breed Puppy Formula'. Regular puppy foods are often have too high in fat. Too much fat causes growth problems in large breed puppies. If you have questions about puppy food, please contact us.
We recommend a puppy vitamin and a probiotic for your puppy as he or she grows. For the puppies we raise, we use the Nutri Vet Puppy Vitamins. We use Proviable Probiotics for a great good probiotic. I also use Juru Gut Sheild to strengthen my pup's gut response against parasites.
Our puppies usually wake up around 6:30/7 AM when we take them outside first to go potty. They often spend an hour paying outside in their puppy yard then while we clean up their pens and get their breakfast ready. The pups eat breakfast around 7:30 and then go potty again afterwards. For the rest of the morning, they mostly sleep and play sometimes. Sometime around noon the pups eat lunch and spend a little while outdoors exploring. During the afternoon, they sleep again. Around 4 PM, they go outside to play for a while. After eating around 6PM, they have quiet time until 8-9 PM. That's when we top off their food dish and tell them goodnight!
Typically, our puppies leave between ages 8-10 weeks. Sometimes we have pups available at an older age. Puppies may not leave our home a day before they are 8 weeks old! It is the law!
We offer ground and air transport. Ground transport to the surrounding states is available with our reliable transport nanny, Concetta Kilmer. If you want to fly out for your puppy, the pup can fly home with you in the cabin as long as she is between 8-9 weeks old. (The sooner after 8 weeks the better). Your pup can also fly to you and you can pick your pup up at your nearest airport. We hire a flight nanny for this service, usually either Concetta, Jesse, or Julie. I no longer manage flights myself because of my personal work schedule. Feel free to request a quote for puppy transport, transport fees are in addition to the puppy price.
Our puppies LOVE balls, rings (like donut toys), and toys with a handle. It's a bonus if they squeak!! These things are all easy for them to carry in their mouth! Stay away from tennis balls and rawhide toys.
Our puppies are vaccinated for Parvo, Distemper, and Kennel Cough are the appropriate ages. You'll get a vaccination record with your puppy. Our puppies are also dewormed regularly. Please be careful to keep your puppy away from dog parks and other places where dogs in your neighborhood frequent until your puppy has received all his puppy vaccines.
Our puppies are microchipped for permanent ID as required by the USDA. Our puppies come with prepaid lifetime Reunite enrollment.
All our puppies are sold with limited AKC registration. Requests for full AKC registration are considered on a case-by-case basis. Full AKC is an additional $500.
